Luino, Italy

Luino, Italy..

From Gerra Gambarogno, you can go with the train over the Switzerland-Italy border to Italy.
We drove on wednesday afternoon with our car from Strengelbach to Ticino, Gerra Gambarogno to our summerhouse. The trip took about four hours, it could be a little bit faster or slower, depending of the time or the season. This time we had to wait about one hour just to get into the Gotthard-tunnel, which is taking us through the mountains.. One hour waiting time is actually not that long time, just wait till it´s a holiday season in the summer time, then it will be crazy.

Few pictures from our evening walk in Gerra Gambarogno, these were taken about 21:30 o´clock.

At thursday morning weather was very nice and warm..

I really like the houses with lots of "old fashion" details in italian part of Switzerland. In some areas, houses are really close to each other. And you will get to know your neighbours in a short time. In this area people are mostly speaking italian and not so much english or even german, so sometimes in shops, coffee places and restaurants it might be tricky to communicate if you can´t speak italian, but talking with hands will help..

In midday we walked to a local train station, which is quite near to our house. From there the train is going to Italy.

That´s the local train station in Gerra Gambarogno,
not very big :-)

It took about 20 minutes to go to Luino with the train. I didn´t see that much difference between Gerra and Luino, when I was walking there, but in Luino, you have to pay with Euros.. And in Gerra I saw more expensive cars like Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis and Maseratis. Luino is also very beautiful, small town with the small shops and streets.

From Luino, you could buy local made wine and other alcohols, like grappa from the small street shops. And in these shops you can also taste some samples, Grappa in this shop was actually very tasty :-)

Luino is also by the same lake, Lago Maggiore, than Gerra Gambarogno.

So, that was a small part of the small city, Luino in Italy.....
