I think at least now after these pictures, you should finally have some kind of idea what kind of place Gerra is... And I really recommend that come and see by yourself, pictures are not the whole truth, not even close.
BTW, because GG is so small village, there are not that many hotels, but in 5 kilometers range you can find more hotels for example from San Nazzaro, Locarno or Ascona. In summer times you can easily and fast go by boat over the Lago Maggiore to Gerra for a day trip.
But if you really would like to feel the real local lifestyle and neighborhood in your holidays, from Gerra Gambarogno you can find nice houses and apartments with good locations which their owners are renting in summer times... and why not in winter times too. And if you are coming with your whole family, renting your "own" house for a week or for a longer time might be also much cheaper option than hotels.
If you have about 1 000 000 CHF in your back pocket, you could also buy a house, and if you are lucky, with that amount of money you will get quite near to the lake.. And if you still have some money left, you could build also a parking place for your red Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS :-)
I could spend all my holidays and retirement days in Gerra Gambarogno, kein problem.. And it´s very near to Italy too, just jump over the border and there you are.. What would be more nice than in the warm sunny morning you´ll jump to the train and go to Italy to buy a bottle of good local wine from the small local shop, come back, wake up your beautiful wife with a kiss, have together breakfast with traditional Swiss Zopf bread with lots of different Swiss cheeses and glass of tasty, fresh red wine, sitting on your balcony and enjoying the view of misty Lago Maggiore, the mountains of the Alps and the deep blue sky... Peace.....
