Mountain Cardada, Locarno
Next Destination: Cardada "The pearl of Lake Maggiore"
I´m a huge fan of mountains and cable cars. I´ve seen the top of the Cardada many times, but only from the other side of the Lago Maggiore. Now it was a good time to finally go up. Weather was great, again, and sky was pretty clear. If it´s misty or very cloudy, you can´t really see anything from the top of the mountain, and if it´s very bad weather, that place is not even open.
And also this time, like in many other times, our journey starts with our friend, SBB. First we took a bus from Gerra Gambarogno to the Cadenazzo train station, then by train to Locarno.
Up to the top of the mountain, you can take a cable car. You can check the timetable and fares from here. One cable car is not going to the top at once, you have to change to the other cable car to get yourself totally up. And of course if you are a crazy sport freak, which I´m not, you can walk or even run ! First, a little bit bigger cable car, which was made for several people, took us to 1340 meters. There you can find few restaurants and nice specially made sight deck, from where you can get a pretty nice view of Lago Maggiore and the Alps. Must place to take massive selfie stick out of your bag :-)
If that´s not enough, and you want to go more up, the next step is to take a two seated cable car to Cimetta, which is at 1670 meters. And as you can see from the map, you could also walk there. In winter time, Cardada is also very famous skiing place.
That was our day trip to mountain Cardada. I highly recommend that you should go and check it out by your self.
