Summer of 2015 (Milan)

10.-12. August 2015
Milan, Italy

One thing that I like about Switzerland, is location. It´s in the middle of many nice countries, like France, Germany, Austria and Italy, and also Spain and Sicily are not so far. I´ve been in Italy many times, it´s a beautiful country. We thought that +30 degrees in Switzerland is not enough, so in August, me and my wife decided to spend three Days in Milan, there it was even warmer. Our main reason was to visit EXPO MILANO 2015. My wife has been once in Milan, but I´ve never been there before.

Our home´s nearest train station is in Zofingen. From Zofingen to Milano, you can go by trains in about four hours, depending of the connections. First to Olten and from there with another train straight to Milano. Even when SBB will take you to Milano, you can´t buy tickets to Milano with SBB app in your phone or tablet, so we bought our tickets from the SBB office in Zofingen train station. And the cool thing was, that at the same time you could also buy tickets for the Expo.

Hotel Me Milan Il Duca

We arrived to the Milano Centrale Railway station, which is quite near to our hotel, so we walked to our hotel. In Milan we had a five star hotel called Me Milan Il Duca with brakfast of course :-) It really was a luxury hotel, normally we won´t use this kind of expensive, five star hotels, but now we did, it was only for a few nights, but it was great, I don´t regret it. If you look that hotel from outside, you can´t really say that it´s a five star hotel. And that´s also why we couldn´t find it first, it took some time to find a right entrance.

Restaurant STK Milan

In the same building is a great restaurant and night club called STK Milan. We heard that many celebrities are having sometimes also fun in STK Milan. We sadly didn´t see any celebrities. Staff in the restaurant was so good and nice. I think the best that i´ve ever seen in any restaurants i´ve been. And the food, starters, main course, dessert, just perfect. We also drank many different kinds of coctails, which this bartender was making for us. If we will go to Milan again, i definitely want to eat in STK.

Next we arrived to Piazza Castello and bumped into the big castle, Castello Sforzesco. Milan is the city, where you can find something to wonder all the time, in every direction, no matter where you are going.

Arena Civica (Gianni Brera)

In the same area, is also a big sports arena, originally opened on 1807. Doors were closed, so we couldn´t get inside.. Inside is a modern sportsfield for soccer, rugby and for some other sports like running. In the early years of the twentieth century stadium was used mainly by Inter Milan.

Piazza Gae Aulenti

Weather was great. Sunny and warm, it was so nice just to walk around the streets between the old buildings. After a while we saw something not so old. Modern skyscraper with a tall tower was standing in the horizon. Let´s go and find out what is that.
It is Piazza Gae Aulenti. Opened to public in December 2012. Named after Gae Aulenti, the late Italian architect. I really liked that place.

EXPO MILANO 2015: FEEDING THE PLANET, ENERGY FOR LIFE

Our biggest reason to come to Milan, was the Expo Milano 2015. Expo Milano was the Universal Exhibition that Milan, Italy, was hosting from May 1 to October 31, 2015. Expo area was huge, 1.1 million square meters and over 140 participating countries with their own pavilions. 21.5 million visitors. After we got ourselves inside, they gave us a free Milano 2015 passports, to this passport you could ask for stamps from these places you visit in the expo. We got three stamps :-), Switzerland, German and one stamp they gave us in info desk. Queues to the pavilions were so long, that we didn´t want to wait. But still we saw much, maybe not inside the buildings but there was a lot more to see. We were expected to eat inside the expo, but that was a big disappointment for us. There was many restaurants, but mostly with long queues and crowded with people. Finally we found a place, where you could sit and eat, but it was a normal snack place, so we took only slices of pizza and water to drink...
